Ahhh I forgot I couldn’t do read mores on picture posts sorry for the long post!
So this is my personal headcanon for Port’s scar. I think he got it in 1578 at the Battle of Alcácer Quibir.
He was at the height of his power, his empire stretched over four continents and he had a fucking beautiful face to match it, thank you very much. And he knew it. Port had always known he had a pretty face. Being charming got him quite a few good deals; he knew how to make the most out of his looks. This is important, because he was proud of his empire and he was proud of his face. And in one day both things were ruined. Ok the empire took longer but that was the moment that started his decline.
All it took was a second, a momentary distraction, Sebastian shouting his name far away in the heat of battle, and next thing he knew there was blood dripping from the left side of his face and soldiers rushing around him.
And Port had a complex about his scar for a long time. He had many scars from battles, but they were all on his body, where he could either hide or show them off as he pleased. But this one was right across his eye; there was no hiding it, even though he tried. He let his fringe grown longer and tried to cover the scarred side of the face with his hair. But everyone knew about it and it made him extremely self-conscious for a while, because he knew it made him uglier. There was no denying it. It got better once it started healing, but he still resented it. He felt robbed of his face, of his empire, of everything.
Eventually he came to terms with it, and accepted it as part of himself, as part of his history. He admits that it makes him look
badass tougher and he quite likes that.
As to what it did to his eyesight, I do think it blinded him for a while in that eye. But since he’s a nation and his healing system is better than humans’, he managed to slowly recover his eyesight, although it’s not as good as it is in his other eye and there is a slight discolouration.
